About the Project
Three bridge cranes within a metals service center were experiencing repeated failures, posing safety concerns and interrupting operations. Lovegreen was engaged to assess the cause, develop a solution, and restore full crane functionality without disrupting the customer’s production schedule.
Project context:
- Three critical bridge cranes within a metals service center
- Ongoing equipment failures and frequent inoperability
- Safety risks for operators and reduced operational reliability
- Timeline flexibility essential due to production requirements

The Problem
All three bridge cranes were suffering from structural misalignment, resulting in unstable operation, increased mechanical stress, and frequent part failures.
Challenges included:
- Diagnosing the exact misalignment contributing to frequent breakdowns
- Avoiding production downtime during measurement and remediation
- Coordinating precision repairs across three distinct crane systems
- Providing documentation and progress reports throughout
The Solution
Lovegreen deployed its laser alignment and project management expertise to diagnose and fully remediate the crane systems while flexing around the customer’s schedule.
Key actions included:
- 3D measurement of all crane rails and beams using a FARO laser tracker
- Electronic reporting to identify misalignments and recommend corrective action
- Procurement of replacement rails
- Design and laser cutting of custom steel shims for leveling
- Precision leveling and reinstallation of rails across all crane systems
Project execution highlights:
- Crews worked Thursday to Sunday over several weeks, switching between night and day shifts as needed
- All work completed with zero interruption to customer production
- All three crane systems returned to full, safe operability
Specialized equipment used:
- FARO laser tracker
- 32’ scissor lift
- 40’ articulating boom lift
- Magni rotary telehandler
